III. The Parts of Womanhood They Didn't Show Me, April 2015.
They showed me tall, skinny, effortlessly beautiful women. They showed me what it looked like to be wanted, and they made it look so easy. They did not show me periods, and so much more than that... They did not tell me about adhering to the male gaze. They didn’t show me catcalls, stares from weird old men, or the fear when walking home by myself at night.
This is the juxtaposition of what is acceptable and what is unacceptable about being a woman.
